Scamps is a game about eating and running, exploring and growing.

The player takes the part of a small creature which grows from a furry blob into various adult shapes dependent upon what food is collected and eaten during the long childhood.

Adult scamps can then get careers based upon the form they have grown into.

The emphasis is upon replay value with no attempt to corral the player into going everywhere and seeing everything the first time round.
Adult scamps will remain playable after a new scamp is born. The more diverse diet of the nurtured child will allow for ever greater diversity of body plans.

Basically a scamp has ears, a tail, none or more legs, a head and a body. It starts with only a head. The legs, body, ears and tail can be lengthened from zero to five units. Each part can also vary in size from on to five increments.
Long or large ears permit limited flight. Long legs give land speed and jumping ability. Long tails look cool and can do a number of special tasks (such as signalling). Large scamps can use their weight to move objects in their environment.

The main enemies are wolves and the winter. Scamps are nigh-on indestructable but hunger cold and danger will cause them to panic and act erratically. The player will never be denied control but their inputs may be 'misinterpreted' by the hungry scamp.

The scamp landscape is one of forests, rivers, mountains and alpine meadows. From a virgin wilderness the landscpe will slowly become populated with humans who will limit some of the scamps' freedom but also provide opportunities for adult scamps to gain interesting careers and toys.
Scamps can drive cars (dangerously), be investigative journalists (wear a hat and look important), provide power for mills (on the merciless wheel), pay moles to dig burrows, explore the highest peaks, wave their lomg ears and a host of other good scamping.
